Lore opens this week-end, for those in the UK

Lore (Australia-Germany-UK, 2012) Dir: Cate Shortland, Scr: Robin Mukherjee

What betterthandisneyland thought (on 7 January, one of our first posts): “An intelligent, moving and completely absorbing film.”

Lore is the second film by Australian director Cate Shortland.  It’s been eight years since her mesmerising Somersault.  Too long.  This the story of 12-year old Lore and her four younger siblings making their way across Germany in the immediate aftermath of World War II, based on the short story by Rachael Seiffert.  The trailer alone moved us close to tears this week.

If you’re thinking of seeing a movie this week-end, go and see this one.

Another film we’ve reviewed that opens this week-end in the UK is Song for Marion (UK, 2012) Dir: Paul Andrew Williams, Scr: Paul Andrew Williams

What betterthandisneyland thought (on 22 January 2013): “This one has no energy, no characters, a predictable story, an uncomfortably feeble end and it wont make you laugh when you’re supposed to.”  It’s the second film by Paul Andrew Williams, who should know better.
